Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 4–7
Estimated time: 20–35 min
Difficulty: Medium
Areas to color: about 160

Coloring order

Color Dori's tilted yellow dump bed first, then the heap of dirt and rocks piled inside it in a few shades of brown.
Move to the orange cab at the front: the big eyes, the wide smile and the silver bumper, one part at a time.
Save the row of big wheels for last, with black tires and gray hubs on each one.

Questions to talk about

Besides dirt, what else could Dori carry in that big bed?
When does Dori tip the bed up high like this?
Have you ever moved sand with a shovel? What was it like?

Take it further

Use a cardboard box as Dori's dump bed, fill it with crumpled paper balls, then tilt one side up and let them slide out for a dump-truck game.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
