Coloring order

Begin with the big boulders on the right, the cave opening behind Elijah, and the valley hills far off on the left in browns and grays.
Color Elijah's robe, scarf and white beard as he sits on a rock looking up, then the two ravens flying in with bread in black and dark blue.
Make the winding brook light blue, and finish with the cattails on both sides and the flowers in the lower left corner.

Questions to talk about

What do you think Elijah thought when the ravens flew in with bread?
How might Elijah have felt seeing food arrive every single day?
Has anyone ever brought you something you really needed?

Take it further

Share how the ravens brought Elijah bread and meat every morning and evening in 1 Kings 17. Then cut ravens from black paper, tape them to straws, and act out the brook scene as a stick puppet show.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
