Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 8–11
Estimated time: 40–60 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Areas to color: about 150

Coloring order

Start with the clouds filling the sky and the sea at sunrise in orange, pink and yellow, keeping the area near the horizon the brightest.
Color the body of the flying roadster concept silver and the wheels dark gray, then lightly shade the jet streams slanting down below the wheels in sky blue.
Finish with the cliff-top lighthouse, the winding coast road, the pointed sea rocks and the wildflowers up front in orange and purple.

Questions to talk about

Where along the coastline is this car flying to?
What would the lighthouse keeper say on seeing a flying car?
Have you ever watched the sun come up over the sea?

Take it further

Draw the sea and cliffs along the bottom of a sheet of paper, then draw your own imaginary flying car in the sky above. Give it a name and decide what its jets look like.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
