Activity guide for this page

Recommended age: Ages 5–8
Estimated time: 25–35 min
Difficulty: Medium
Areas to color: about 85

Coloring order

Begin with the ark's wooden walls, roof and window frame that fill most of the page, following the wood grain with two or three browns.
Color Noah's white beard and robe as he reaches out the window, then leave the dove white and make only its olive leaf green.
Color the rainbow behind him one band at a time, and finish with the rolling water and the rocks at the lower right.

Questions to talk about

What do you think Noah said when the dove came back with an olive leaf?
How does Noah look as he welcomes the dove? What might he be feeling?
Have you ever waited a long time and then heard happy news?

Take it further

Cut a dove out of white paper and glue a green paper leaf to its beak. Then one child plays Noah at the window and another flies in as the dove, acting out this scene from Genesis 8.

Age and time are rough guides for a child coloring alone with pencils or crayons; every child is different. The area count is an estimate counted from the line-art image.

Printing and coloring tips

Print on A4 or Letter in portrait to keep the original proportions.
Keep the finished version open beside you while you color.
Use slightly heavier paper with water-based markers so the ink shows through less.
Fill the large areas first and leave the small ones for later.
The finished version is only a suggestion. Any colors you like will work.
