Ways to use this collection
Nari shows four contact sports: taekwondo with Korea, Muay Thai with Thailand, boxing with Mexico, and fencing with France, plus a taekwondo page with no country, a fencing academy scene and a judo dojo scene. Taekwondo has a uniform and belt, boxing has gloves, and fencing has a mask and blade, so you can compare what people wear and carry in each sport as you color.
Activity ideas
- Recolor the taekwondo belt in several shades from white to black and ask children what each belt color might mean to them.
- Sort the gear from all four sports into 'wear', 'put on the head', and 'hold in the hand' columns, and talk about why protective gear matters.
- Copy the poses slowly in slow motion, staying at least an arm's length from each other so nobody touches.
Tip Because the poses show sparring, start with a chat about rules and respectful bows before coloring; it works well in class at about 20 minutes per page.
