Ways to use this collection
Five winter sports: ice hockey with Canada, speed skating with the Netherlands, cross-country skiing with Norway, plus an ice hockey page and a ski page with no country attached. Helmets, sticks, skate blades, and long skis all look different, which helps with learning names, and the set splits neatly into sports on ice and sports on snow.
Activity ideas
- Group the gear from all five sports into sticks, skates, skis, and helmets to make a 'class winter gear chart', and write each name beside its picture.
- Color an ice rink on a large sheet with a light-blue crayon, then flick a bottle-cap puck into a paper goal.
- Find Canada, the Netherlands, and Norway on a map and imagine together what winter looks like in each of those three countries.
Tip Use markers for thin lines like ski poles and hockey sticks, and pale-blue pencils for the snow and ice; a page takes about 20 minutes.
